Only a few hours of use

Picture
This PL8750 poultry house sanitizer and landscape flamer was used for a short time in a soils study and is now for sale.
This is hands down the best way to sanitize organic or conventional commercial poultry houses, by eliminating pathogens and insects; drying out the litter and flaring off ammonia.
There are many uses for the Red Dragon PL8750 Poultry House Sanitizer besides broiler and turkey house sanitation.
It is also used to control weeds when renovating turf grass on athletic fields.
It is very effective in controlling weeds on gravel roads and parking areas. Paving contractors use it to dry off asphalt prior to applying additional layers of asphalt.
They normally cost $12,000. The asking price for this one is $9,800.

Controlling Weeds in Organic Tobacco

10/28/2016

Picture
In conventional tobacco it’s common to use herbicides such as Poast, Aim, Devrinol or Spartan to control weeds.
With organic tobacco, you are limited to cultivation & hand labor.
Controlling weeds in organic tobacco can make or break a farmer’s profit margin. Depending on the weather, it can be a daunting task requiring hundreds of man hours costing thousands of dollars for many farms.
That is until the introduction of flame cultivation equipment specifically designed for use in  tobacco.
Over the past few seasons a number of farmers have benefited from flame weeding their tobacco.
A precisely directed flame eliminates weeds and destroys weed seeds on the soil surface without damaging the crop. An additional benefit to flame weeding tobacco is that as you flame the weeds you are also flaming off emerging ground suckers.

Picture
A timely application of propane fueled flame will eliminate a lot of hand labor, saving money and improving crop quality.
You can flame weed throughout the growing season through lay-by and first harvest all the way to harvest.
There is no disturbing of soil, thereby no turning up new weed seeds and no disturbing plant roots.
Even in a wet year, if it's dry enough to get a tractor into the field, you can flame weed your tobacco.
Tobacco flame weeders are fueled by propane which is an inexpensive EPA certified non-toxic fuel.
The fuel consumption for a tobacco flamer is around 7 gallons of propane per acre.
During the growing season propane costs about a dollar per gallon or less.
If you are a tobacco grower or are considering growing organic, PRC or conventional tobacco I welcome you to contact us for more information on this tobacco flame weeding equipment.

Organic weed control for drainage ditches

Picture
A while back Clemson University demonstrated a propane fueled ditch flamer at their annual field day to prove the effectiveness of flame weed control. This ditch flamer is made from one of our Vineyard & Orchard flaming kits.
Propane flame weeding is very effective at controlling weeds without chemical runoff that pollutes rivers & streams as well as underground aquifers.
Propane is an E.P.A. certified clean fuel and is completely non-toxic.
For more information on organic weed control and these flame weeding kits, have a look the Vineyard & Orchard flaming equipment page on this site.
If you have questions about the ditch flamer or any of our other equipment, call any time for a free consultation.
Here is a short clip of the ditch flamer in action.
FYI - Here is a diagram of how the ditch flamer in the video was set up.

Small scale vegetable bed flamer for market farmers

9/29/2015

Over the years we have had requests from organic market farmers looking for a tractor mounted vegetable bed flamer that is better suited for growers farming smaller tracts of land, around 3 - 5 acres.
We have always had larger scale vegetable bed and row crop flamers, as well as kits available for farmers who want to do their own welding and configure their own crop flaming equipment.
Now we have an option well suited for smaller tractors and smaller budgets that does not require you to build your own bed flamer.
This bed flamer weighs around 400 lbs. and can flame up to a 6' wide area in one pass. Each of the 2 propane tanks hold about 8 gallons of fuel. At 3 m.p.h, you can flame around 2 acres.
Cut way back on labor for weeding crops like carrots, beets and salad greens. Slower germinating crops like carrots, and beets can be flamed just prior to germination and salad crop beds can be flamed just prior to planting. (stale seedbed flaming)
There are many possibilities with this flaming equipment.
We can also configure it for row crops and small scale orchard and vineyards.
Watch the video below and let us know what you think.

Why poultry growers prefer flame sanitation over windrowing

11/17/2014

PictureThe Red Dragon Poultry House Flame Sanitizer
Are you one of the growers that are questioning the effectiveness of windrowing for disease and insect control?

The Red Dragon Poultry House Sanitizer attaches to the 3 point hitch on your tractor.
Moving at around ½ mile per hour, you are applying intense heat of between 1400 and 2050 degrees directly to your litter (or bare floor, after a total litter clan out).
The heat from the propane fueled torches under a safe insulated hood dries out litter and kills pathogens more effectively and reliably than chemical applications or windrowing. (See this article highlighting the Red Dragon Poultry House Sanitizer’s effectiveness in controlling Bird Flu in poultry houses.)

Flame sanitizing also kills darkling beetles, eggs and larvae in the litter of your poultry house. Growers who use the Red Dragon Poultry House Sanitizer (PHS) report a drastic reduction in the population of darkling beetles.

Controlling weeds and insects in the Vineyard

PictureRed Dragon GP-1000 flaming the vine row

In the movement toward methods of chemical free or organic vineyard practices, weed and insect control can be quite a challenge. Flame Engineering has been applying their unique approach for 53 years and to vineyards specifically for over 20 years. The Red Dragon GP-Series Vineyard and Orchard Flaming Equipment offers producers a wide variety of highly effective, economical and pesticide free options to meet their weed and pest control needs.

Flaming uses clean burning propane to deliver a quick blast of fire to specific areas on berms which kills weeds and their seeds, as well as harmful insects and spores. This process can be used as often as needed to keep the berm area clean and keep weeds under control, without damaging vines, trees, irrigation systems, vine protectors or the environment, all while eliminating chemical costs and keeping manual labor low. Depending on weed pressure and maturity, flaming is typically done 4 to 6 times per year initially, with customers reporting a reduction in need from season to season.

Advantages of row crop flaming

2/21/2014

PictureLighting the torches on a row crop flamer
Planting season is right around the corner, and so is weed season.
Last year, wet weather gave us an abundance of logistical challenges like when to plant and how to get rid of the weeds.

Many farmers who favor mechanical cultivation were unable to combat weeds due to wet field conditions and many ended up on the short end of the stick at harvest time.
Flame weeding in row crops presents some advantages you may not have considered.
if you can drive a tractor into your fields you can control weeds with a row crop flamer.

By not cultivating you are not stirring up new weed seeds, thereby lessening the chance of more weed seeds germinating.

If you have relied on herbicides like Round Up to control weeds, and worried about rain wasting your time and money just after you've sprayed, you will be happy to know that flame weeding takes effect as you drive and if it rains just after you flamed, it's okay!

Row crop flaming effectively controls weeds between rows and in the crop row with very little effect on the crop plants.
